I wore them when I went to the mall and after walking around for a few hours, I sat in my car and thought...wow...my legs are tired! I enjoy them and since I need all the help I can get, I wear them almost all the time. They are super comfy! :)

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I bought a pair of these (black and white ones are a bit more subdued) about a month ago. Frankly, I love them. I don't know about working out your legs and bum, but they are the most comfortable flip-flops I've ever had. When I slip on my 10.00 flip-flops, now, they feel horrible on my feet.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I don't own a pair of FitFlops but I have to take exception to your commentary. After 20 years of dancing, martial arts, yoga, weight and aerobic training I can tell you first hand that if you really want to tone your backside and thighs then your posture and balance actually do matter a great deal. Proper posture promotes healthy circulation, better digestion, lower food intake and deeper breathing - all of which help to keep your weight lower. Better balance means that your muscle groups are working together the way they were meant to rather than straining against each other (the primary reason for such ailments as backaches!) which also promotes better muscle tone. Essentially, if the FitFlops do help with balance and posture then they are meeting their promises; perhaps it's just not in a way that is either strenuous or fast enough for most instant-gratification personalities. I certainly wouldn't recommend using them to replace your regular workout but it sounds like they weren't really intended to be used that way. You would get the most out of these shoes by wearing them on your everyday errands around town. If you don't care for the style of these shoes you could check-out the MBT athletic, walking and flip-flop shoes available at Bliss Spas (www.blissworld.com) which are based on a very similar technology.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I have a pair of bronze patent leather FitFlops. I LOVE them! They are extremely comfortable... and cute! As far as the workout... does anyone really expect them to replace the daily gym routine? I don't think so. I didn't buy a pair of shoes with expectations of going from a size 6 to a size 2. This was my thinking... Just because I'm thin doesn't mean I'm toned. If the shoes help even a little, hurray for the shoes! If I'm trekkin' around after the kids and my feet don't hurt, hurray for the shoes!

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

Not sure how old the health editor is but personally, you should totally care about balance and posture. As you age (and we're talking 40), a women's balance decreases. Working on balance consistently can help prevent falls that as we age more can mean broken bones and for the elderly can be mean a serious decline in their health. And posture...poor posture leads to a myriad of issues in the back and shoulders including the dreaded 'non-specific' back pain. So, always incorporate balance and posture work into your weekly workouts. If you're doing pilates or yoga, you're on your way.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I too agree, I don't feel the burn my friend told me she felt in these. I can tell you however, that these are extremely comfortable and cute. Are you kidding? Good posture can help alleviate all sorts of skeletal and joint problems and pain, and good balance is a major factor in preventing falls that can lead to broken bones. If these can improve posture and balance, I'd say that's a pretty good thing. Some people might even think it's more important than a cute butt.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I'm curious how these would match up against a pair of MBT's (Masai Barefoot Techology), probably the ugliest shoes on the planet. Has anyone tried both???

I have MBT's and love them. Can't say that my ass looks any tighter but I think you actually have to take the shoes out of the closet and onto the pavement for that kind of progress. Still, they're great shoes when I do have to be on my feet on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Forget wearing them on the grass unless you want a sprained ankle.

So, has anyone tried both? Any of these problems pop up with FitFlops?

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

What do you mean I can't tone my butt with flip flops?!!?!

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

Hey whatever happened to "earth shoes"?? I am probably dating myself here, but I remember those from when I was a teenager. Same thing, they were suppose to build up your legs, etc. The heel was lower than the ball of the foot when you walked. They advertised that it was like "walking in sand". Everybody wore them, and although not a workout, they did tend to tone your legs a bit. Took some getting use to walking in them, but once you did they were comfortable. Maybe the flipflops don't firm the thighs and derrier quite as promised, that's o.k. a little exercise is better than none. As for them being unattractive, I haven't seen too many flipflops that were that pretty anyway.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

How do FitFlops compare to MBTs (Masai Barefoot Technology)? Is it the same thing?

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I bought the fitflops thinking the same thing- that they'll change my life. Can't say that I see a huge difference in my butt or thighs, but it's done one thing- got me walking more to see if they "work". So the increase in walking has helped and I will vouch for the fact that they are the MOST comfortable shoe I've ever put on! I don't regret my $50 flip flop purchase- but I cannot say that there is anywhere near $50 worth of material on these shoes!

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I have both fit flops and MBT. I bought them both in a moment of weakness. I wear one or the other at work and during errands. I don't think they made my thighs thinner, but I have less cellulite on my backside. The cellulite on the front of my thighs has not changed. My calves have a much more sculpted look, which is nice for skirts. This happened over the course of a year. These shoes are not a miracle cure, just a way to get a little more workout into a busy schedule. And they tightened up my hips a little, so complimenting them with yoga is a good idea. If you have the money to spend it doesn't hurt. But if you're stressing about making rent, don't do it.

The comment about the hard material in the front toe was true for the fit flops. It took a long time to make those sandals comfortable. But I've worn them for hours and had no back pain. I also have the hideous 2 inch MBT sneaker. If I was going to buy them now I would definitely buy the slightly less hideous mary janes. The MBTs are good for squeezing a little extra fitness in on vacation, running errands, and during work (if you don't have a job where you’re completely stuck to a desk).
FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I bought the white ones and also walked around a lake, 3 miles in total. I have a short right leg ( 1/4" shorter than my left)& wear a lift in that shoe.My lifts wore down causing a tilted pelvis & tight back muscles. I also work out a lot & wound up with major muscle imbalances that cause low back pain. I went to a chiropractor & started regular yoga classes but still had sore back muscles at the end of the school day from all the standing...I'm a teacher. When I started wearing the fitflops every day there was a dramatic improvement in my lower back pain. They exercise my front hip flexors when I walk; I can feel my front thigh, calf & glute muscles working. When the hip muscles are tight, esp the psoas muscle ( front hip flexor) it can cause low back pain. I do daily yoga stretches and the fit flops complement my yoga practice by providing a constant workout & keeping my posture & balance in order. Like some other posters said, posture & balance are VERY important. I can walk long distances in them & even use them to warm up my legs muscles before gym classes. My back pain is almost gone now.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

The best shoes I have EVER worn. I will put them on with socks this winter, and I don't care about the looks. Just find a long set of stairs somewhere, put your FitFlops on, and climb them two at a time (clenching and squeezing your bottom as you go). This will challenge the hip extensor muscles (the hamstrings and glutes) by stimulating them with a bigger load, and also a longer activation time. Start with 10 big steps a day and work up to 20, 40, or 100 a day."

Well duh, if you walk up stairs 2 at a time over and over again that would be a workout, whether you are wearing these shoes or not. When I developed plantar fasciitis, my doctor sent me to a physcial therapist for exercises to strenghten my foot muscles - something that is difficult to do based on how the muscles in the foot are constructed. Look in any runner's sports store and you will see many many items for sale that are made to specifically strenghten foot muscles (including wobbleboards.) I don't have these shoes, but now that I've read the review, I'll probabbly give them a try. Not to make my tush tinier, but as another way to strengten my weakened foot muscles while I'm running around town. It would be nice to be able to wear a pair of supportive sandals again while playing in the summer heat, instead of being forced to wear supportive inserts in hot shoes.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I bought a pair last year and noticed a huge difference in my calves. And i agree with everyone who has said balance and posture are important... why do you think dancers have such great bodies...

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I love my FitFlops. I was worried about the strap at first, but it is quite comfortable. I also do quite a bit of standing and these shoes give me great support.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

i have the black pair of fitflops and I love them. Sure, the soles are thick and spongy therefore comfortable. But they are so inflexible that walking any reasonable distance in them (not just on short errands etc) made my feet really hurt. I get cramps often in my foot that extend across the top of my foot, down the outside and into the arch. I'm such a creature of habit to just grab a cheap pair of flip flops for summer and just grin and bear it. One day I was out for a drive and with no where else to park at the mall, I went in through the Macy's door. I decided to take a look at their summer shoes. I came across fitflops. I've never heard of them and least of all heard what they were all about. I liked how they looked and it fit my needs. The real test was when I took off my cheap $10 flipflops and put these on. INSTANTLY, the cramp on the top of my foot had gone! I felt energized enough to walk throughout the mall a bit which I wound up doing for about 2 hours. I'm on disability for a rare bone disease and advanced osteoarthritis. I am 37 years old. This is the best my foot has felt in many years. I do have balance and posture issues related to my bone disease, curvature of the spine, rotated pelvis, etc...I wound up buying 3 pairs of these that night and I wear them ever since. I'm in the process of buying a 4th pair. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sneakers! This just might be the only shoe I will ever own. Who cares about the gym?! I can't do workouts anyway. Any little bit that I can do, helps a lot.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

S. Dahl seems to be expecting a miracle from a pair of flops. Um, not the total package for a toned body. That also includes regular cardio, healthy diet, lots of water, good sleep and good attitude--People like Dahl are looking for a "quick fix", a short-cut to perfection, but let's be realistic. I'm buying the Fit Flops and the Earth Exerfit sandals to amp up my walks, which I do very regularly. I knew this would be the true test of comfort. I have three herniated disks and walking or standing is painful for me although I do maintain a regular exercise program and I'm very fit. At the end of the day I was amazed at how my back felt, I was pain free and grateful to have found a casual shoe that really works. As for the MBT's they are so ugly and overpriced. I will purchase another pair soon, and will buy them for my daughter who has flat feet.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I have fitflops (3 pair) and love them I have feet problems and can actually wear them all day without pain. I also have a few pair of earth shoes. Love them... can also wear them without pain. Didn't need expensive shoes until I hit my forties...now I am paying with pain for all the cheap shoes I wore or so many years. My MBTs are ok -- bought them when they first came out and at that time they didn't have much support. Also have a pair of Z Coils...fun. Each pair (different brands) has it advantages and disadvantages. I am just grateful to have some shoes that are comfortable when I am on my feel all day.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

just bought them today, I have low back issues. shopped all day with much less back pain than normal.
Feels funny when I took them off to walk barefoot. I like them and plan to walk more, especial if my back does not hurt.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I bought a pair of black ones. I like them and wear them around the house and for running errands. They are also helpful at work when I have to walk in bwteeen buildings (almost a 1/2 mile). The biggest benefit for me is that my low back pain is not as prominant as it was I am walking faster. I wore them all day at Disneyland and it really made a difference. My only complaint is that they squeek.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I tried both and am sticking with Exerfit by Earth. Within a day, my knees which had been giving me gip, were pain free. Yesterday I decided to really trial them and walked at full pelt from Waterloo to the Tate Modern - a good mile - both ways. When I got home, I really felt like I had been doing some serious exercises especially my butt, as you call it. The impact of which is still evident today! i can honestly say that they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn in my life and I am rather hoping there will be a good looking winter range.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

my fit flops are the best. A friend of mine has a pair, and she said over a period of time, wearing them everywhere, she toned up her legs and actually lost some weight. As a former dancer and athlete, I cannot believe that a health editor would poo-poo the absolute importance of good posture. I live on a sailboat in a warm climate and am CONSTANTLY in flip flops. I am so pleased to finally have a pair that are comfortable and good for your core strengthening as well. As far as the lady who was "embarrassed" by the logo...well, that's just silly. It's not like they say "I bought these because I think I have a fat ass!" Although I would probably wear them anyway, because I don't really care about stuff like that. I love them, I was perfectly content to pay $50.00 for them, and for me, now adays, that's not chump change. And I will be perfectly happy to buy another pair when the time comes. These are better than walking barefoot--I've never found anything as comfortable on my feet, and I've bought expensive shoes--Munro come to mind--that were supposed to be wonderful for people on their feet all day. These are better. I broke some of the small bones in my big toe about two weeks ago and can't wear anything closed until the swelling goes down. I'd been running around in flip flops--ugh! I love my FitFlops and couldn't live without them. I have bunions and hammertoes and it is the first shoe that I have ever purchased that is 100% comfortable. If they trim my legs or butt, so be it, if they don't, they don't. I can't wait to get home from corporate america and put them on. I could walk for miles, much better than sneakers.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I am about to purchase my second pair of FitFlops. I LOVE THEM! They took a day to get used to but after that they were wonderful! I suffer from Leg and Knee pain ( constant ) but after just a few days of wearing these shoes the pain had subsided tremendously. I could give a rip about the weight loss or the leg workout - the shoes look and feel good - that is what matters!

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I have several pairs that I wear consistently. I never once thought that they would actually tone anything and not sure why anyone would think that. However, as a fifty year old with some chronic back problems, I've found that I can walk much further in these shoes without getting back pain than any others I've tried. I don't mind the stying and some are actually quite nice. If you're a person who loves 'cute' trendy shoes and spike heels, you definitely won't like the look of these, but if you want comfort, warmth and dryness in winter, these are great.

FitFlops: Shoes to tone your butt?

I like the fitflop boots.
