It truly saddens me that people are offended by sexuality in any form. There were times and places on this planet where it was celebrated and reveled in. At the very least it was understood for what it is, i.e. a deeply seated drive in all healthy beings and viewed in completely different ways by men and women. If watching healthy young women exercise and stretch causes a man to exercise (even if it is only one arm at a time) then it is justified as an exercise and or yoga video. Prudes will always tut tut and women over a certain age or a certain weight or raised in a certain way will always get mad at men for looking at other women and not at them. It is the way of things. I do yoga nude all the time. I mean, seriously, you shouldn't have to purchase a video that "specializes" in "nude yoga". Just get any old yoga video and take your clothes off. It is VERY freeing and it does seem twice as relaxing as "regular" yoga. I'm not really sure that fog machines and rotating discs are the way show someone yoga, but doing a regular yoga tape with no clothes on would be great. Linda Dahlstrom describes herself as more than a little insecure. She could turn the heat on in the room. Maybe even do some heavy stretching so as to get the blood circulating. Obviously a person can know if their neighbors can see in the room and it's not a complicated problem to correct if they can. It's amazing how many American men and women are totally uncomfortable in their own skin. It's as if people are so terrified of the human condition that seeing nudity and being naked, along with the simple mention of "sexual energy", cause shame and psycological discomfort.

Now this video is probably total garbage. However, I only learned something about the person watching it.

I have been a naturist aka nudist for quite sometime now. I havnt seen the video but I can say without a doubt that true nudism is completely non sexual I have been to many nude spots and resorts and yes there is the occasional "swingers" looking for something extra but their are specific resorts for that and they should have gone to one of them.I DO know nudism does bring about a feeling of freedom and total acceptance of your body image,an issue most women have then men,naturally. And as for the author worrying about someone looking into her place while shes nude I have 2 suggestions ,one, cover the windows (duh) and 2 if someone is looking into your own space then thats their problem not yours.

That being said, judge the yoga by the yoga, and nothing else. On the other hand, it would be only fair to have more than one gender represented in the video. Men have physical discomforts that women don't in certain folded-leg positions, so male viewers could learn to work around them (if that's why they're watching this to begin with). wellwisher, I am confused, why do you think that yoga opens your body to visitations? I skimmed through the wikipedia article and I've been practicing bikram and hot power yoga for some time now and loving it. I am also a Christian. I teach pilates (another form of mind body exercise) and do want to expand into yoga because I believe it has had a great effect on me--teaching me to be more happy with my present body--whatever my current weight, flexibility, strength, etc. is, because yoga is about not just today, but the current posture. And I love that! I just push each posture off my mat as I finish it and go on to the next, whether I did good or bad doesn't matter, because it is over, and all that matters is the posture I am now in.

Um...that whole idea rather objectifies every single human being on the planet who's ever had sex. I agree that sex is a beautiful thing, but it's also a special thing. I am (and have been for several years) an avid practitioner of nude yoga and was delighted-- at first glace-- by the captioned link to this article. I practice nude yoga specifically because it is more freeing and do so in the mirror for the same reason dancers practice in the mirror-- so that they may heighten body awareness and correct alignment. I agree that we do live in an age were sex has become a little TOO mainstream (especially when young children get involved), but the flip side to that is that society has to demonized anything remotely sexual. Perhaps a healthy medium is desirable (though I realize not likely)?

As a young man myself, I understand that sexuality bombards one everyday and not just from popular culture, but from natural influences too.

1) I'll bet you couldn't say the same about men's bodies. Men's bodies can be said to be (even more) beautiful and I'll prove it: Men don't have to spend lots of money and time on makeup, nails and other expensive trips to the spa in order to find a mate. Then again, neither do women, in theory anyway.

2) Not easily enough. Again, a man is free to take his shirt off on a hot day in the sun, but as soon as the "beautiful" woman does it, the cops will arrest her, the prudes will cringe, and the feminists will say she's giving something away, when actually it's the reverse: She's reclaiming it!

And consider the first two points together: Do you have something against a man looking at beauty?

Can you imagine men being so self-hating and insecure that they wouldn't dare leave the house without tons of makeup on, the most fashion-fearing clothes and jewelry, and their hair fixed just right? An interesting thought: If the title had been "Naked, or "Natural", would it have stirred people up as much, as using the word "Nude"? Obviously, this is not so much about true yoga practices, it's more about interpreting yoga from a mental aspect to a visual one, which is simply a marketing ploy to sell more DVD's. It's not my place to be the judge of whether it's right or wrong, moral or immoral, as long as people are taking care of their bodies, and enjoying what they are doing, then what's wrong with that? Lighten Up and Enjoy..Life, your own Body, and others too. Ditch the attitudes, and actually practice Respect and Acceptance, and the true concept of Freedom, however you wish to practice it....
My own opinion? This sounds like a fun one to leave out on the coffee table to start up some steamy conversation, and not much more than that. Women should have their own male version available for their entertainment too, however the reality is that it would not sell, because it would immediately be labeled "Gay", or at least perceived as such.
Some of America has developed very narrow views on the difference between naked and sexual, and while they are often more than compatible, they are not the same thing. I'm not gay, but I don't condemn others if that's their choice, whatever floats their boat.
Hopefully others may find this video enlightening, and yes(!) even sensually arousing, rather than simply confusing, as the author found it.
I see nothing wrong with raising one's mental, sensual, sexual and physical awareness, they are all designed to work together. I just wanted to repost this only because it is the ultimate truth.

It truly saddens me that people are offended by sexuality in any form. There were times and places on this planet where it was celebrated and reveled in. At the very least it was understood for what it is, i.e. a deeply seated drive in all healthy beings and viewed in completely different ways by men and women. It is not sick to find pleasure in sexual means. If watching healthy young women exercise and stretch causes a man to exercise (even if it is only one arm at a time) then it is justified as an exercise and or yoga video. But it should be noted that the purpose of this video is not to teach healthy yoga forms but to make money. That, oddly enough, is also a good thing. Prudes will always tut tut and women over a certain age or a certain weight or raised in a certain way will always get mad at men for looking at other women and not at them. It is the way of things. Getting upset only shortens ones path to the end we all reach. Relax, breath deeply and enjoy the journey. (oh, and remember that you and your beautiful children were conceived in carnal acts that started with some leering and lecherous guy lusting after some wanton and willing girl. Or so I’ve heard.)

I've studied Yoga for almost 15 years with varying degrees of bodily coverage depending on the time of day, year and geographical location. I never ventured into the rotating dojo with fake fog or anything and have to laugh at the prospect of this particular 'class' being taken seriously.

Its important to be comfortable and I am one who loves to be warm. Properly practiced, it doesn't matter if your naked, only in your mind. Layers can come on and off as necessary...

First off, I am surprised that this video is just getting attention! I have had it amongst many others that I simply review being always a student, but as well a teacher. It was first released in 1999 by Ambassador Video. If one is to go to Amazon and search specifically for "nude yoga" there is actually a bit more "twisted" (excuse bad pun)man with man yoga that can be purchased and has been around for quite some time, so there is no one suddenly "cashing in".
In my ways of understanding, "one may only see what one holds within themselves." While one may find this video disgusting and perverted, another may see it as women confident in their bodies, with at lease a very minimal interest of thousands of year practice, handed down through lineages, originally by Srila Yogi Patanjali. And even if one may be at first attracted by sexual desire, it may actually lead that viewer to a greater understanding and practice of yoga. I try to see good in everything, despite this being a really horrible display, if anyone is seeking at all the various limbs or root of Yoga!
I guess the second Good thing one could say, is that it encourages women to feel good in their body. In Vedic teaching, one choses thier birth for a purpose. One must fully accept that body and purpose to achieve enlightenment/samhadi. The human body has 7 energy centers/chakras. Sexuality, and the instinct of survival, to eat, mate and procreate is a more dense, gross or unrefined energy of being human. But it is still part of being human, therefore must be accepted and as a yogi practiced or concentrated in a pure/satvic way. One's emotional self, spoken words or sound/song, mental energies and thoughts,and spiritual energy are examples of more refined energies... but just as vital balancing the spectrum of human energetic potential.
For a little over 17 years, I have emersed myself not only into yoga, but learning and studying the language, the dance, arts, dress, music, film and devotional worship of India. I also have spent the past 7 years as a bikini and lingerie model. My life could not have been more surreal and experience to have lived years in yoga ashrams and attended (at the time) the only US accredited college for yoga. But shortly after very hard decision being made to move to India, continue studies of Yoga and go to Tilak University for Ayurveda/study of Indian Medicine. The other to "accept my Western Birth", explore that and bring my eastern teachings to Los Angeles, where celebrities at this time such as Madonna and Sting were touting thier practices through the media giving a greater awareness of yoga internationally! No sooner had my teacher/guru told me that the life outside the ashram and teaching yoga in LA was more the path of my "chosen birth" did I find myself heart and center inside a world I had little or no experience at all, The Playboy Mansion!!!
Today, I see no irony as why my life took this path. I have also sought out what was known as the 64 arts women could practice for enlightenment, fashion design being one of those fine arts or spiritual practices. I aim to create something material, but not materialistic. Why I include my personal experience as a white woman surrounded mostly by east Indians during my studies in the Midwest, I noticed a culteral overlap in the way women on a spiritual pursuit were treated. And there became a time I was ashamed of my female body, sexuality, being "a distraction from God" despite wearing indian saris daily and celebate in practice.
Though these were culteral interpretations imposed, I sought Pure Vedic Text which noted I was just as capable as a man to reach full potential of Yogic practice! Many centuries ago, women many years ago were not allowed into temples, for it believed they were not intelligent enough to understand Vedic Text.
In reading I found 64 art forms/kalas which women could daily perform as a spiritual practice for enlightenment and therefore went onto study of dance/bharatnatyam and oddisi, music/tablas, mridangam and vocal, learning sankrit. I was not a good cook, but realized my passion since youth was to design fashion, something not recognized in modern yoga communities as a spirtual practice, but recognized in Vedic text as one! With teaching yoga, I incorperated practice and continued learning in college fashion. To me, what was material, was not necessarily materialistic!
So I am brought back to my first comment. One will see in that, only what one holds within themselves. I mention my personal experience for I have received major criticism as a Westerner practicing and teaching yoga while balancing a modeling career and learning fashion design. Much like the video, I take the birth I was given, embrace it and seek purity in all that I do. believe a test of my yogic devotion. For I had married an individual that physically people could not understand there to be true love, but that was the illusion I was warned
Therefore, Yes, this video is a very far cry from Yogic teaching.

BUAHAHAHAHA, thanks, I just marinated my screen with snarfed coffee.

If people want to do yoga in the nude, that's their business, I just don't want to be subjected to seeing it. This vid is soft-porn, just like the HBO filler others have mentioned, and those chicks didn't get 'fooled', I'm sure they're doing what they do to get their fix, or pay for their stripper boobs, or whatever. I basically don't really care beyond the awesome laugh I got from the article's hilarious description of the author's experience.

om, i have studied yoga very deeply, there is no such 'nude yoga' written somewhere in yoga sutras.

It's no differant from visiting a Family Nudist Club, you're not there for sex or even touching others; With Yoga you follow the instructors to do the sets of stretches & poses, it is a strenuous exercise routine; I've done both.
